Spiders outlast Muskies in OT

A-10 semi finals
















ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- It was the battle of the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds as No. 24 Xavier faced off against Richmond in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament Saturday afternoon at Boardwalk Hall. In the end it was the No. 3 seed Spiders that defeated the No. 2 seed Musketeers 89-85 in overtime.


Richmond moves on to face Temple in the finals of the A-10 tournament, Sunday at 1 p.m. This was the second time this season that XU and UR needed extra time to decide the game.
 

With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 24-8 on the season while Richmond improved to 26-7 overall.


Jordan Crawford
led the Musketeers with 20 points on 8-of-20 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Terrell Holloway was second with 16 points including 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.


Kevin Anderson led the Spiders and all scorers with 27 points. He was followed by David Gonzalvez with 26.


Richmond struck first in overtime with a 3-pointer from David Gonzalvez that gave the Spiders a 76-73 lead. Richmond built up an 85-82 lead when Terrell Holloway hit a trey to bring the Musketeers within two, 85-83.


Xavier was forced to foul as time wound down, and the Spiders took advantage at the free-throw line to seal the win.
